Equal Opportunities

At Pier Lodge Day Nursery we are committed to providing the highest quality of opportunity to all children, family and staff.

We are committed to engaging with the whole community, whatever their background or level of ability, according to individual needs including:

  • Minority ethnic and faith groups.
  • Children who need support to learn English as an additional language.
  • Children with Special Educational Needs.
  • Gifted and talented children.
  • Children who are risk of disaffection or inclusion.
  • Travellers and asylum seekers.
  • Children from same sex parent families.
  • Looked after children.

The Nursery will encourage all children to feel happy and grow in confidence, whatever their needs and develop friendly and helpful behaviour towards each other without the fear of being bullied by others.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is our starting point for planning a curriculum that meets the specific needs of individuals and groups of children.

Access to all activities within Pier Lodge Day Nursery is open to all of our children, their families and all adults committed to their welfare.   The Nursery vehemently believes that no child, individual or family should be excluded from Nursery activities on the grounds of gender, sexuality, class, family status, disability, colour, ethnic origin, culture, religion or belief.  We aim to help children to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes with which to live in our multicultural society.

Multicultural, anti-racist, gender and disability issues will be addressed positively and consistently through the curriculum.  Resources will reflect the diversity and experiences of all children and celebrate the difference that exists within society.

All children will be supported and encouraged to reach their full potential and individual needs met and exceeded where possible. Our setting welcomes children for whom English is not their first or only language.  We have various staff members who speak different languages, supplemented by parents who are keen to share experiences with fellow parents in their native language.

As a new building, Pier Lodge Day Nursery has been designed to allow disabled access to the nursery rooms and gardens.  The medical room has an electric adjustable changing bed for comfort and disabled toilets are situated on the ground floor.  The whole nursery is also wheelchair friendly and accessible.

The nursery will work closely with outside agencies to access any other equipment that should be necessary for either children or staff.
