Our Topic

At the start of the term our topic is ‘Construction’. Throughout this topic we will be exploring ways we can make, build and create. The children will create their own mind maps to collect ideas, then use these to build houses, vehicles and various other structures. The children will be using a range of different materials including boxes, playdough, glue, paint, shaving foam and natural resources.

Things to try at home:

  • Use empty boxes to build.
  • Make a den.
  • Read The Three Little Pigs Story and other books about building.
  • Crayon rubbings on different materials ie. brick, wood, bark.

Towards the end of the term we will be exploring ‘Our Community’. During this topic we will be discussing kindness and friendships. We will also explore road safety and the signs and signals we may see in our community.

Things to try at home:

  • Walk around your local area, talking about the buildings and structures you can see.
  • Discuss people who help us in the community ie. policeman, fireman, paramedic.
  • Explore multicultural music within our community.
